A morning like no other

2010 Poetry Parade: Day 4

Morning Red
by
Rossiter Raymond

Morning red, morning red,
Now the shadows all are fled;
Now the Sabbath’s cloudless glory,
Tells anew the wondrous story,
Christ is risen from the dead.

All around, all around,
Solemn silence reigned profound;
When, with blaze and sudden thunder,
Angels burst the tomb asunder,
And the Savior was unbound.

Forth He came! Forth He came!
Robed in white, celestial flame!
Mary, at the empty prison,
Knew not her Redeemer risen
Till He called her by her name.

Morning red! Morning red!
Christ is risen from the dead!
Still He walketh in the garden,
Speaking words of love and pardon.
Though the crown is on His head.

I like both Jesus poems very much. One has the voice of the Bible, the other whispers to you about Jesus; one rejoices, the other leans over next to you in the pew and says, “It’s okay. God doesn’t make junk. Redemption is around the corner.” The title of the second poem is great, “Jesus Told Me I’m Just Fine.” I will remember that poem, and it will rattle around in my head. My father used to say, “If you argue with yourself, you always win.” Well, that’s just fine with me. Thank you, Jayne, and Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to you, too, Joe--and thanks so much for all your insights and comments.

Do you see what I see? We all see parts? I am sure that Anne Frank never thought her diary would become one of the most read books in the world. The quote is so haunting, and I tend to doubt that “peace and tranquility" ever returned, except in death. On a brighter note, I bet Walt Disney never thought "Disney" would be what it is today. And it all started with a friendly mouse.
